Autumn in the Twin Cities

MCAD’s 26th Annual Art Sale - November 16th-18th (paid tickets first 2 nights, free admission on Sat. the 18th) “The MCAD Art Sale is one of the most anticipated events in the Twin Cities. It’s your chance to mingle, peruse, and buy one-of-a-kind creations from MCAD artists who are creating not only what’s new, but what’s next. Thousands of affordable artworks will be available in a wide range of mediums—including paintings, prints, photographs, sculpture, furniture, clothing, jewelry, accessories, and more.”
In Our Hands: Native Photography, 1890 to Now - Photography exhibit through the end of the year (Mia general admission is $20) “Enter into the vivid worlds of Native photography, as framed by generations of First Nations, Métis, Inuit, and Native American photographers themselves. Presenting over 150 photographs of, by, and for Indigenous people, “In Our Hands” welcomes all to see through the lens held by Native photographers.”

The November playlist is a portal to a place of potential, an exploration of what it means for all of us to be both transformer and transformed in our own lives. This playlist is about magic!

I chose songs that speak to the inherent presence of magic in relationships, (both those with other people and our relationships with ourselves) the sacred nature of symbols, and the therapeutic importance of embracing duality and impermanence.

The Magician

As the last leaves fall from trees this November, The Magician encourages us to trust that, eventually, new sprouts will emerge following this disappearing act. We can be tricked by the illusion of permanence and forget that inter-and-intra-personal spells (or Emotional Alchemy) allow for us to become unbound by the limits of what we imagined feasible.

The Magician asks us to envision significant change, even if we cannot explain with reason the process by which it occurs. Seeking the magic that enlivens all things has radical possibilities, such as the anti-racist potential of enchantment as explored by Chloe Valdary. The Magician performs not to deceive but to delight, to return the wonder and spaciousness of unknowing.
